As the NUS1000 Staff Edition project draws to a close, with the final off-boarding finishing in a few weeks, now is a good time to thank everyone for their participation. This is one of the most comprehensive datasets of its kind ever collected, in Singapore or abroad. We truly appreciate the time, effort and care you have put in to make this project a success.
To illustrate the scope of your contribution, 411 of you completed the whole year of data collection. You have provided data for 123,484 nights of sleep and 98,879 daily surveys. You also provided 20,330 days of time use data – corresponding to 487,920 hours, or 55.7 years, if you prefer!
In this bumper instalment of posts, we share two sets of findings and propose an exciting extension to the current work. The first set of findings relates to sleep, stress and the way we work – data directly relevant to you because it reflects life of NUS staff. The second set of findings relates to the need to reduce sedentary behaviour and increase physical activity because overall, our working age staff have poorer habits than retirees.
In the proposed extension to the study, we will be inviting you to improve understanding about how sleep relates to the gut microbiome. You can read more about this proposed work here.
We are considering university-wide extension of the NUS1000SE study, collaborating with different units across NUS for a more holistic view of health, to embed staff well-being into NUS culture.
Once again, thank you for your participation – and your contribution to the continued improvement of NUS.
